Wool, boucle, alpaca and mohair are dry clean only. Warm water and machine agitation felt the fibre — the piece shrinks, hardens and cannot be recovered, so do not risk a gentle cycle. Most of the time it needs nothing: air the piece outdoors in the shade for a few hours and wool sheds odour and dust on its own. Blot spills with a clean, barely damp cloth and let it dry naturally, never rubbing. Expect some shedding and light pilling in the first weeks, especially on a brushed or looped yarn; lift pills with a wool comb rather than a razor, which cuts the pile. Fold rather than hang so the weight does not stretch the weave, and store with a cedar block against moths — wool is a food source. Keep it out of direct sun, which both fades the dye and dries out the fibre over time.
